Locate has developed two forms of TAOS technology with differing thermo-responsive properties designed to meet discrete therapeutic and regenerative medicine needs.
The development of thermo-setting TAOS has exploited the process of “liquid sintering”; a unique mechanism by which an injectable polymer matrix is converted from a paste into a porous solid minutes after entering the body (see below). Liquid-sinterable particles are created by blending well-established clinical polymers to form temperature sensitive formulations which surface melt then harden together at body temperature to form a scaffold in situ. The system is activated by addition of an aqueous liquid (e.g. saline).
